Using keyboard shortcuts

The keyboard shortcuts for selecting items from application menus are shown to the right of the menus:

In the Edit menu above, the keyboard shortcut to Copy is Ctrl+C.

Using keyboard letter sequences

As well as using the keyboard shortcuts, you can also select menu items by typing a sequence of letters, which correspond to a specific menu item. The letter you type to select a menu item is indicated by an underscore:

Using keyboard letter sequences is useful for selecting menu items that do not have direct keyboard shortcuts available. For example, to select File > Close from the above menu:

1. Press Alt-F together, to display the File menu.

2. Press C, to select Close.

With a menu displayed, you can also move up and down the menu using the up and down cursor keys, and move across the menu bar using the left and right cursor keys. Press Return when you are over the menu item you wish to select.
